A1 Biggleswade South Roundabout
Vectos Infrastructure was appointed as the Highway Consultant to undertake the detailed design for the main junction improvement off the A1 accessing Biggleswade from the south. This followed a successful developer-led planning application in the locality.
The highway improvement formed a major part of Central Bedfordshire County’s (CBC) aspirations for the future growth of the town and surrounding area by increasing capacity of the trunk road and adjacent local road network in this vicinity, seen as a key component in strengthening the town centre economy and the creation of new homes, jobs and businesses in the Biggleswade region.
Vectos also acted as Supervisor for the Works, providing input at all stages from planning, through design and construction.
Vectos undertook the detailed design of the highways works required to access the current and future developments in liaison with HA and CBC design approving Agents.
The junction improvement scheme included the reconstruction of the existing A1/A6001 London Road roundabout from a two lane to a three lane circulatory carriageway. An additional lane was provided to the north and southbound approach dual carriageways as well as a new west arm off the ovalabout junction.
Vectos coordinated all design activities in delivering the scheme, including detailed negotiations with the Client, their financial consultants, arranging road safety audits, and delivery of site investigations and surveys, environmental and ecological studies and Traffic Regulation Orders. Vectos undertook the role of supervision on behalf of the Project Manager, EC Harris during the 28-week contact.
