Sainsbury's Northumberland Park (Tottenham Hotspur FC stadium development)
On the 30th September 2010, Haringey Council's planning committee granted planning consent for a 6,700 sqm supermarket as part of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's (THFC) new stadium development project. The entire scheme includes a state-of-the-art football stadium, offices and facilities for the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, a club museum and shop as well as up to 200 new homes, hotel, supermarket and a major new public space.
Public realm provision in the form of a new public square will provide a safe and attractive communal area which will become a focus for events and activities, further animated by shops and restaurants. The wider development is a flagship for the regeneration of the surrounding area, securing significant long-term benefits for the local community. The foodstore opened in November 2013.
Vectos acted as transport consultant to Sainsbury’s throughout the planning process, working alongside the THFC development team, and liaising with the London Borough of Haringey to discharge a range of planning conditions to allow the realisation of the new store.
Our role comprised detailed negotiation with THFC to work through the practicalities of operating a large supermarket adjacent to a football stadium, considering issues such as match-day operations and the impacts of events on customer trade, parking and servicing. Planning conditions were discharged through the preparation of a Supermarket Travel Plan, Car Park Management Plan and Delivery & Servicing Plan for agreement with THFC and the London Borough of Haringey.
