National Grid Properties submitted an application for the demolition of the gasholders at the Battersea Gasworks site in January 2013. The site is located within the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area.
The site will be redeveloped to deliver hundreds of new homes, making a significant contribution to the transformation of the Nine Elms Opportunity Area as well as creating a vital link between Nine Elms and the existing community to the west.
The demolition application was supported by a Statement of Planning Principles, including an illustrative masterplan of the future residential development on the site. Demolition works commenced in late 2013 and are due to be completed in late 2014.
Vectos acted as transport consultant to National Grid Properties in the submission of the Demolition Consent application and the preparation of the Statement of Planning Principles for agreement with the London Borough of Wandsworth.
In our role, we provided input into the Environmental Assessment of the scheme including detailed analysis of the demolition methodology to determine the effects of heavy goods vehicles and staff travel associated with the works.
In addition, masterplan design input was provided to consider access and movement within and surrounding the site, including connections with Battersea Park, Battersea Power Station and surrounding public transport facilities.
