101 Prince of Wales Drive, Battersea

Project Overview

St William Homes LLP submitted an application for the redevelopment of the Former Battersea Gasworks site in February 2014. The site is located within the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area.

The site will be redeveloped to deliver a mixed use development of 839 new homes plus up to 5,700 sqm of flexible commercial and education / community uses. Car parking will be provided for residential dwellings at a ratio of 0.3 spaces per unit plus cycle parking.

This development will make a significant contribution to the transformation of the Nine Elms Opportunity Area as well as creating a vital link between Nine Elms and the existing community to the west. The development will also significantly improve the urban realm along Prince of Wales Drive plus create a new public square and bring into use the railway arches alongside the site. This will significantly enhance the local area for pedestrians and cyclists. It will be supported by improvements to Battersea Park Rail Station.

In May 2014, the London Borough of Wandsworth resolved to grant planning permission for the new mixed use redevelopment. 

Our Approach

Vectos acted as transport consultant to St William Homes LLP in the redevelopment of the site.

In our role, we provided input into the Environmental Assessment of the scheme and produced a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan for the scheme. This required ongoing and constructive liaison with both LBW and TfL and the close working relationships were integral to a successful planning application.

In addition, design input was provided to consider access and movement within the site and on Prince of Wales Drive. This work including connections with Battersea Park, Battersea Power Station and surrounding public transport facilities and the input into the urban realm scheme of Prince of Wales Drive.
